Background

Waverley’s remnant vegetation exists in small and fragmented patches throughout our Local Government Area, particularly along the coast.

Much of this vegetation is in poor condition and requires ongoing management actions to survive. To address this, the draft Biodiversity Action Plan – Remnant Sites: 2021-2030 (the Plan) has been developed. This will continue the achievements of the previous Plan which has seen the percentage of remnant bushland in good condition double since 2015. Managing remnant vegetation in Waverley is difficult as the areas are small and fragmented, well used by the public and often in difficult areas adjacent to cliffs.

The proposal

The Plan proposes bush regeneration actions such as weed management and the creation of buffer vegetation to protect and enhance our remnant bushland, including the habitat of the threatened species Acacia terminalis (subsp. Eastern Sydney) and the critically endangered plant community Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS).

The Plan includes 13 individual plans for the following sites:

  • Clifftop Remnants North
  • Caffyn Park
  • Diamond Bay Reserve
  • Loombah Road Cliffs
  • Eastern Reserve
  • Weonga, Raleigh & Rodney Reserves
  • Hugh Bamford Reserve
  • Bondi Golf Course and Williams Park
  • Clifftop Remnants South
  • Tamarama Pacific Marine Drive
  • Calga Reserve and Bronte Cutting
  • Waverley Cemetery Cliffs
  • York Road Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub
