Waverley Council proposes to renew the Alcohol Free Zone (AFZ) currently in place in the Bondi Beach area. This covers public places, including roads, footpaths and car parks. The renewal requires application to the state government every four years.
The AFZ will be enforceable from 22 January 2015 to 22 January 2019.
This does not include the alcohol prohibited area already in place for the beach and park, including Biddigal Reserve. This is considered an alcohol prohibited area, which is covered under local legislation.
The AFZ is subject to controls under the Local Government Act 1993. Police and Council Rangers can utilise powers under the Act when dealing with AFZs. The AFZ applies to both roadways and paths located in the defined area.
Certain areas within the zone are defined as ‘Exempt Premises’. These include any premises or part of premises, including outdoor areas, on which the sale of liquor is authorised by a licence issued in accordance with the Liquor Act 2007.
