Background

Waverley Council invites professionals with experience in architecture, landscape architecture or urban design to register their interest in being a Panel member of the Waverley Design Excellence Advisory Panel.

The Panel will undertake reviews of development applications (DAs) and Pre-DAs and provide advice to Council staff and the determining authority for a wide variety of development such as:

  • Residential flat buildings, shop top housing and mixed-use developments with a residential accommodation component as defined under State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing) 2021.
  • Other residential buildings, mixed use developments, commercial and retail buildings and institutional buildings that are considered significant by Council and require assessment under Clause 6.9 (Design Excellence) of the Waverley Local Environmental Plan 2012.

The Panel may also be asked to review proposed changes to Local Environmental Plans, Development Control Plans (DCPs), site specific DCPs, master plans for large or major sites and planning proposals.

Who can apply

We are seeking professionals who meet the following criteria:

  • Appropriate qualification and demonstrated experience in the design of apartment developments in relation to architecture, landscape architecture or urban design.
  • Demonstrated highly developed skills and experience in urban analysis of local planning strategies and policies (e.g. local environmental plans, development control plans, precinct plans and town centre revitalisation) that contain provisions for apartment development
  • Knowledge or understanding of local council policies and development controls
  • Knowledge of the design issues of the local area
  • Ability to analyse, evaluate and report on complex design quality issues for development applications and strategic planning
  • Ability to develop design options and/or recommendations to ensure appropriate application of SEPP (Housing) 2021 design quality principles and the Apartment Design Guide

The panel

The Panel meets monthly at the Waverley Council Chambers or online and consists of 2-3 members, depending on availability. Membership is up to a three-year period and remuneration for panel members will be as follows (excluding GST):

  • Up to 2 agenda items $1,000; or
  • 3 or more agenda items $1,800.
