The Heart of Bondi

28 August 2018

The first of two light installations, 'Heart of Bondi' fell under tier three of the Strategy - site-specific installations. It was erected 18 December 2017 and demonstrated how lighting could be applied across the Waverley LGA.

‘Heart of Bondi’ celebrated human connection and Waverley Council's unique culturally diverse community. Heart of Bondi invited visitors to connect to the sculpture via heart sensors, incorporating a little piece of themselves into the art. The sculpture read their heart rate and responded in a beautiful array of light or their heart print. By collecting different heartbeat prints, Heart of Bondi united all those individual living, visiting and commuting through Bondi Junction.

The spheres containing the LED lights were made from recycled or reused plastic, such as plastic bottles, straws or CD’s to promote sustainability.

The consultation ran from 18/12/17 – 28/3/18 and will occur again for a week in September 2018.
