Background

The objective of the Floodplain Management Committee is to assist Council in the development and implementation of floodplain management studies and plans. Once formed, the Committee will provide advice to Council and make recommendations on flooding related objectives as well as the implementation of the floodplain management process. Committee membership includes elected representatives, community representatives, Council staff and State Government representatives.

The Committee is both the focus of, and a forum for, the discussion of technical, social, economic and ecological issues and for the distillation of possibly differing viewpoints on these issues. Also it will oversee the implementation of the floodplain management process and ensure the community has opportunity to express their views.

Upon formation of the committee, the next stage of the process is the Flood Risk Management Plan & Study that involves additional investigations into areas of more frequent and problematic flooding, to identify ways of further mitigating or reducing flood impacts. This study will cover 12 identified hot spot areas in Waverley LGA which were identified in the Flood Study by BMT, 2021. The areas can be found within the Flood Study on our website.
