Project Update - June 2024
Thank you for your feedback on the Gould Street Improvements design proposal. We have carefully reviewed and consolidated your suggestions, which will be incorporated into the next stage of our design. Your contributions will help us achieve a better outcome for the community.
Key findings from community feedback indicate:
- 59% of respondents support the proposed concept design.
- 32% of respondents support the proposed concept design with changes.
- 10% of respondents oppose the proposed concept design.
Key issues that will be addressed in the next stage of the design include:
- Ensuring the proposed design protects and enhances existing residential zoning, development, and local business operations.
- Recommending that Council refrain from installing permanent seating, with any seating arrangements adhering to footpath seating permit guidelines.
- Prioritising safety in the tiered plaza design by discouraging seating on tier barriers and implementing measures to deter skateboarding.
- Enhancing greenery throughout the area.
- Exploring the need for additional traffic calming measures at key intersections in the surrounding streets.
- Assessing the current garbage collection setup and its implications for the design.
- Considering the impacts on parking and deliveries to businesses by extending the kerb onto Brighton Blvd.
- Incorporating provisions for shade.
- Installing bike hoops for added convenience.
We appreciate your input and look forward to making Gould Street a more vibrant and functional space for everyone.
Project Description
Gould Street is a residential and business street in Bondi that stretches from Hall Street to Murriverie Road. The business section of Gould Street between Ramsgate Avenue and Hastings Parade has been identified by Council as requiring renewal with opportunities for improved amenity of the area.
We are proposing to upgrade the footpath area on this section of Gould Street with landscaping, additional tree plantings and the introduction of tiered plaza spaces to create a revitalised, community-friendly outdoor dining and leisure area. Vehicle and pedestrian safety will also be improved by upgrades to the adjoining kerb and footpath areas. The proposed design will not result in any loss of parking.
To help revitalise Gould Street and beautify the streetscape, we want your feedback on our design proposal.
The Community Consultation will be open for feedback from 13 December 2023 - 24 January 2024.
We look forward to hearing your responses.
