Project background

The 2024 Sydney Mardi Gras Festival will take place from February 16 to March 3, 2024. The streets of Sydney will once again shine with pride and diversity as the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade returns to Oxford Street, Flinders Street and Anzac Parade on Saturday 2 March 2024. This year, the parade is centered around the 2024 Festival theme 'Our Future'.

Why is Council seeking an expression of interest?

Waverley Council would like to invite 25 members of the community to join our inaugural 2024 Mardi Gras float to walk the iconic Mardi Gras parade path alongside Council staff! Our float will depict and celebrate the well known and loved Waverley Coastal environment, with a focus on the ocean. More than ever, it is vital to ensure the health of our oceans and to educate future generations in caring for the environment. Our float will depict the diversity of community who protect, enjoy, live by, visit and love the ocean and our local beaches as well as featuring some of the animals that we share this beautiful environment with. If you're in interested in participating, either as a 'performer' or behind the scenes in a volunteer capacity in the creation of costumes and props then please fill out the form below!

Applications close on Friday 12 January 2024.

If you're under 18 and wish to participate in the parade you will require the supervision of a parent or guardian.
