Waverley Council is making improvements to Marks Park and the Coastal Walk to ensure we continue to deliver recreational facilities that support a healthy, happy and connected community.
The works at Marks Park will include:
Continuous access path - A footpath providing step free access to park facilities. The footpath will link the playground, amenities block, seats and coastal viewpoints.
Stair connection between Park and Mackenzies Point - Create formal stair access from the park to the coast walk and look out.
New Lookout - New accessible lookout point. The lookout will provide access to coastal views providing a similar experience to Mackenzies Point for all park visitors.
Embankment stabilisation - New native landscape planting to stabilise the embankment and prevent erosion.
Playground upgrade - New playground upgraded to replace old equipment and expand the play experience.
The works at the Coastal Walk will include:
New Fitness Stations - Three new fitness stations will replace old equipment along the Coastal Walk between Tamarama and Marks Park. The new equipment design has been based on the much loved and highly successful Bondi Park fitness station. The stations will offering a range of exercise options including pushup bars, dip bars, monkey bars, vertical pole, different step heights and flat and incline benches with various hand holds.
New Park Furniture - To continue to support users of the Coastal Walk new furniture will be installed along the route between Tamarama Park and Bondi including bins, seats and drinking fountains.
Upgrade works will start in early June 2019 and are due to be completed by September 2019, weather permitting.
During this time, the coastal walk, park areas and amenities block will remain open to the public. Only the immediate footprint of the works will be fenced off from public access.

Following consultation in 2017, Council has started works to make Marks Park more accessible and equitable for everyone to enjoy. Works began in early June and will include:
New universal access footpath
New stair connection between the park and Mackenzies Point
New accessible lookout point
New native landscape planting to stabilise the park slopes and prevent erosion
New playground upgraded to replace old equipment and expand the play experience.
The new pathway will provide step-free continuous access around the entire perimeter of the park for all members of the community including people with a disability and families with prams.
New swings and slide on a soft-fall surface are features of the new playground.
The access and inclusion upgrades works will also include new access stairs to Mackenzies Point, turf remediation, irrigation improvements, low rise vegetation and steep slope stabilisation.
Feedback received through community and stakeholder consultation over several years informed our plans for the access and inclusion upgrades.
The access and inclusion upgrades are in response to community needs and meet Council’s obligations under Commonwealth and State government disability Inclusion laws.
Works including the pathway will be completed in September ahead of the world-leading Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, 24 October to 10 November 2019.
