August 2020: Notification of works

11 August 2020

To ensure that Council can continue to provide a safe space to the local community and Sculptures by the Sea, we are required to upgrade areas of turf in Marks Park. The works will aim to improve the condition of the embankment around the perimeter path close to the new staircase at Mackenzies Point.

Council carried out community consultation on the proposed works and received 13 responses. Of these, the key themes that arose were concerns over the cost of the project, and the loss of green space.

Following the conclusion of the public exhibition period, Council Officers had further on-site meetings with Sculpture by the Sea representatives in order to revise the scope of work required and to reduce the projected cost of work.

A report with an updated scope went to the Operations and Community Services Committee Meeting on Tuesday 7 July 2020 and was passed. The works are scheduled to commence 3 August 2020.

The upgrade will include:

  • Earthworks, regrading and drainage
  • New turf

During this time, the footprint of works will be fenced off within the park. Park access will remain open as will the perimeter path and connection to the coastal walk.

There will be noise from the construction but we will make every effort to minimise the inconvenience to you by ensuring that no loud works occur prior to 7.30am.
