Project Background

The Waverley Council Road Infrastructure Renewal Program is a yearly program to renew and refurbish the roads, footpaths, kerbs and gutters of our LGA.

This program draws from the Waverley's People, Movement and Places transport vision which was released in 2017 and maps out Councils’ plan to improve local streetscapes, making it safer and more enjoyable to move around Waverley.

Council’s vision prioritises pedestrians, bike riders, public transport users, service vehicles and shared mobility. The prioritisation of green modes of transport is not only for environmental reasons, but aims to give residents access to cheaper modes of transport and recognises that Waverley has the second highest population density of any LGA in Australia in an area constrained by historic land use.

Key Priorities in the Waverley Road Infrastructure Renewal Program

In line with its Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), Waverley Council assesses the existing condition and expected life expectancy of its road assets to inform the Road Infrastructure Renewal Program.

The Program focusses on renewing pavement, kerb and gutter, and footpath assets as prioritised through ongoing condition assessments conducted by Council’s engineers as well as road pavement engineering and testing consultants.

The planning and delivery of the Renewal Program through informed condition assessments not only ensures safe and effective places for community use, but also ensures that Council meets its SAMP community service levels of:

  • 80% of Road Wearing Course in Excellent or Good condition
  • 80% of Footpaths in Excellent or Good condition
  • 75% of Kerb and Gutter in Excellent or Good condition
  • 75% of Traffic Infrastructure in Excellent or Good Condition
