Waverley Council is celebrating the 35th Waverley Youth Art Prize (YAP) by inviting all young artists of the Eastern Suburbs to create a portrait of someone that inspires them. The artist's ‘sitter’ may be distinguished in art, letters, science, politics or the playground. The sitter might be an everyday icon, a loved member of the artist’s life, a local personality or hero. This is not just a painting prize, with portraits accepted across the forms of sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, textiles, video and animation.
This year’s prize will also see the introduction of a packing room prize.
Enter now to have your chance to win over $5000 in art materials, workshops and art experiences, and the winner of the senior category will receive a voucher to attend the National Art Schools Summer School Program in an area of their choosing.
The competition is open to all young artists from 9 to 18 years of age. There are three sections:
- 9 to 12 years
- 13 to 15 years
- 16 to 18 years
Works can be drawings, paintings, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video/film or new media.
Entries must be received via this online portal before midnight, Friday 22 May 2020.
Please note, this exhibition is now online.
