Waverley Council is planning to upgrade Marks Park Playground. This upgrade is required to bring all the play equipment up to date with the latest Australian Standards for safety, as well as improve the play experience of the existing play space as identified in Waverley Council’s Play Space Strategy (PSS).
The playground upgrade aims:
Provide a range of play experiences and cater to a range of age groups through active, imaginative, creative, social, quiet and free play
Increase safety by incorporating barriers/ fencing to busy roadways, more signage – e.g. near dog off leash area
Connect the playground to the amenities building with a universally accessible path
Create play spaces that are sensitive to the cultural values of the community and strengthen the sense of place.
Key improvements include:
Plant native trees on the northern side to provide shade over the playground.
Plant low native plants to screen the playground from the road.
Provide step free access from the park into the playground.
Provide a low barrier fence to separate the playground from the road and time dog off-leash area.
Provide seating options for parents and carers visiting the playground.
Providing a picnic setting with views over the ocean for playground visitors.
Provide a seat with back support and armrests for visitors with mobility challenges.
Multi-function play structure for climbing, sliding and imaginative play.
Seasaw rocker for social play.
A range of swings to suit different ages groups.
Nature play areas for imaginative play with balance challenge obstacles.
Works will commence in the Park in early June 2019 and are due to be completed by September 2019, weather permitting.
During this time, the Park and amenities block will remain open to the public. Only the immediate footprint of the works will be fenced off from public access.
